Most students will be able to demonstrate proficiency with essential academic standards, behavioral expectations and social-emotional competencies through either universal support alone or a combination of universal and targeted support. Select students will, however, require intensive support in addition to the universal and targeted support they are already receiving. While the approach to intervention does not change at this level (i.e., the team is still meeting the student at his or her current level of readiness and providing direct instruction in the lagging skill), intensive interventions become increasingly individualized, longer in time and/or duration, more frequent and may involve staff with specific skills in the areas identified. The resources below are designed to assist educators in providing intensive support for students with chronic and/or significant needs.
